NYE 2018 Event Euphoric Haze

Our special and timely blog post YesterdayToday, shines a light on the San Diego Music Scene in the '60s and then fast forwards to our Euphoric Haze NYE event, which pays tribute to Peace, Love, and the Music of that era.
Let's take a quick stroll down "the Long and Winding Road", reflect on the significance of that time and how music made our lives better.  We can't talk about the '60s without mentioning the assassination of President John F Kennedy; but soon after The Beatles played the Ed Sullivan Show at exactly the right time to bring us up. Their San Diego concert was at Balboa Stadium which was adjacent to San Diego High School and City College. Yeah, yeah, yeah!  Their "set" included 12 songs in just 31 minutes (take note bands) and opened with THEIR version of the Isley Brothers' "Twist and Shout". The Beatles were superstars when they came to San Diego; the Rolling Stones followed them soon after, and the ‘British Invasion' was in full swing.

San Diegans have our own home-grown bands of the '60s who went on to fame. Frank Zappa joined his first band at Mission Bay High School (MBHS) as the drummer and went on to form The Mothers of Invention.  While at MBHS, his parents bought a phonograph, Zappa started building his record collection. That collection began with 22 R&B singles were early purchases, starting a large collection he kept for the rest of his life. In 1967, Zappa formed The Mothers of Invention (progressive rock sound).

From Yesterday to Today, and our upcoming NYE event: Euphoric Haze.

Included in our lineup of amazing bands and musicians are The Rollers," built on a love for the Beatles and a solid musical foundation developed at the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. They have accompanied musicals such as The Who's Tommy and Zoot Suit with the San Diego Repertory Theater. They have also been part of the California Youth Conservatory's productions of Rent and Spring Awakening. The lead guitarist made it to the finals of Guitar Center's King of the Blues competition."

We are also fortunate to feature Lady Dottie and the Diamonds.  "A staple in San Diego for more than a decade the band features some of the most talented musicians around and are the regions premier blues act. It's a boogie-woogie dance party that goes all night. " The band excels at gritty R&B, with elements of funk and garage rock mixed in. Dottie takes her inspiration from Etta James, whose debut album, At Last! was released in 1960 and was noted for its varied selection of music, from jazz standards to blues to rhythm and blues.

Yesterday/Today. The Beatles/The Rollers, Rosie & the Originals/Lady Dottie and the Diamonds, DJ Lexicon Devil/Frank Zappa collecting"vinyl", what's old is new.  And how fitting that Yesterday and Today was the title of The Beatles 9th album released in 1966.
